Schedule of Rates

A Schedule of Rates (SOR) is a structured document listing predefined unit prices for labour, materials, and equipment, used to standardise cost estimation and manage construction projects efficiently. This guide walks you through how to prepare, format, and import your Schedule of Rates (SOR) into WorkPal so they can be used as Fast Entry Codes (FE Codes) or Task Codes across Jobs, Quotes, and Invoices.

1. What Are Fast Entry Codes (FE Codes)?

Fast Entry Codes are short, custom codes you assign to tasks so they can be added quickly to:

  • Jobs

  • Quotes

  • Invoices

Typing the FE Code automatically fills in the task description, rate, and other details. This dramatically speeds up admin and ensures consistency across your SOR.

2. Why Import Your Schedule of Rates?

Importing your SOR as FE Codes or Task Codes allows you to:

  • Standardise pricing and descriptions

  • Reduce manual entry

  • Improve quoting accuracy

  • Speed up job creation and invoicing

  • Ensure engineers select the correct tasks every time

WorkPal supports bulk importing of FE Codes using the Data Importer.

3. Before You Start: Download the Import Template

If you don’t have it:

  1. Log into WorkPal Desktop

  2. Go to WP LOGO → Data Import

  3. Download the FE Codes / Tasks Import Template

This template ensures your data is formatted correctly.

4. How to Prepare Your Schedule of Rates for Import

Your spreadsheet should include the following key fields (column names may vary depending on template version):

Required Fields

  • Code — The FE Code (e.g., WM01, PL-101)

  • Description — The task description that auto-fills

  • Group / Type — Used to categorise tasks (e.g., Waste Management, Plumbing)

  • Rate / Cost — The price or labour rate associated with the task

Optional Fields

  • Duration

  • Additional notes

  • Internal reference

  • Default quantities

Tips for Clean Data

  • Keep codes short and memorable

  • Ensure no duplicates

  • Use consistent naming for groups

  • Avoid special characters unless required

5. Importing Your SOR into WorkPal

Step-by-Step
